What restrictions are in place to manage noise?
Our Noise Management Program includes noise abatement procedures and noise operating restrictions to manage aircraft noise impacts on the surrounding communities.
All pilots flying into and out of Toronto Pearson are required to follow noise abatement procedures unless otherwise instructed by air traffic control. These procedures are published by NAV CANADA in the Canada Air Pilot. Noise abatement procedures help limit the exposure to noise for the surrounding communities without compromising safety.
The noise operating restrictions include a Night Flight Restriction Program, a preferential runway system, operating restrictions by aircraft category, and engine run-ups.
Additionally, we continue to work with our industry partners to make improvements in noise management. This includes our 2018-2022 Noise Management Action Plan and NAV CANADA’s response to the Independent Toronto Airspace Noise Review.
