How does maintenance work impact operations?
Just like roads and highways, our taxiways and runways need regular maintenance to keep them in good shape. This includes things like grass cutting, rubber removal, patching, electrical work, and line painting.
The temporary closures that are needed to complete this work can last for hours or even days and can change how the airport operates. For example, a closure of Runway 05/23 may lead to the airport switching from an east/west flow to a north/south flow while the runway is closed. Or a closure of a nighttime preferential runway may cause the maintenance contingency runway to be used instead.
