Why are aircraft flying at night?
As the world becomes more connected, there’s a greater demand for flights to take off and land with travelers and goods between 12:30 a.m. and 6:29 a.m., the airport’s restricted hours.
Why is the demand increasing? New aircraft technologies, as well as partnerships and alliances between airlines, are transforming one-stop journeys into non-stop flights and making it easier for people to travel the world, visit family and friends, do business, and send and receive commercial goods on time.
This increase in demand needs to be balanced with respect for the communities around the airport. For this reason, there are several measures in place during the night to manage the noise impacts, including the Preferential Runway System.
